Our Positions
NAPTOSA takes principled, evidence-based positions on the issues that matter most to South African educators. Here is where we stand.
Salary Negotiations
Fair compensation for every educator.
NAPTOSA advocates for salary structures that reflect the professional status of teachers. We engage directly with the Education Labour Relations Council (ELRC) to negotiate multi-year salary agreements that keep pace with inflation and recognise service years.
Curriculum Policy
Educators at the table, not just in the classroom.
NAPTOSA believes that curriculum policy must be co-designed with teachers. We oppose top-down mandates that increase workload without consultation, and we advocate for evidence-based policy development through the Council of Education Ministers and HEDCOM.
Teacher Safety
Safe schools are non-negotiable.
Violence and intimidation in schools undermines learning and drives teachers out of the profession. NAPTOSA pushes for clear Department of Basic Education protocols on assault, stronger legal protections for educators, and properly resourced school safety officers in every province.
NAPTOSA holds positions on many more issues. Full position papers are published in our Resources library.
