    FREQUENTLY ASKED

    Fees FAQ

What does the monthly membership fee cover?

Your monthly fee covers full labour representation at ELRC, CCMA, and Labour Court level, access to professional development workshops (CPD), partner discounts through the NAPTOSA Benefits Programme, and 24/7 AI-assisted support via the NAPTOSA WC chat.

    Is there a joining fee?

Yes. A once-off joining fee of R50 applies to state-employed, HOD, and principal categories. Student and retiring member categories have no joining fee.

How does the Safrican group insurance work?

A portion of the monthly fee is allocated to the NAPTOSA-Safrican group insurance product, which provides death and disability cover. The exact premium split between union services and Safrican cover is confirmed in your membership agreement. Contact infowc@naptosa.org.za to request a copy.

Can I deduct my membership fee from tax?

NAPTOSA membership fees qualify as a deduction against employment income under section 11(a) of the Income Tax Act. Retain your annual fee certificate, issued by NAPTOSA national each March, for your ITR12 submission.

What happens to my membership if I retire?

Retiring members can transfer to the reduced retiring-member category at R40 per month. This maintains community access, newsletter subscription, and partner discounts.
